What does the DISTRONIC® Feature Do in Mercedes-Benz Models?

The Mercedes-Benz brand is synonymous with luxury and safety. The company holds the rights to almost 40,000 patents globally. In 1999, they were first to market with Distronic technology, the earliest example of what is now adaptive cruise control which uses radar to maintain a set distance between the car being driven and the one ahead of it. Distronic is now standard on many Mercedes-Benz models and available as an optional extra on all others.

The latest iteration, “Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC” has been honed over two decades and is now part of Mercedes Benz’s Driver Assistance Package that also includes:

• Active Blind Spot Assist
  • Illuminates an icon in the mirror when a vehicle is detected in the blind spot of the Mercedes-Benz
• Active Brake Assist with Turning and Cross-Traffic Function
  • Cameras scan the area around the front of the vehicle and can apply braking force if an impending collision is detected
• Active Emergency Stop Assist
  • Can bring the vehicle to a complete stop if the driver becomes incapacitated
• Active Lane Change Assist
  • Enables the vehicle to autonomously change lanes by activating the turn signal while DISTRONIC is engaged
• Active Lane-Keeping Assist
  • Audibly warns the driver if the vehicle drifts out of its lane, can apply corrective steering input if needed
• Active Speed Limit Assist
  • Uses cameras to read speed limit signs and adjust vehicle speed accordingly while DISTRONIC is engaged
• Congestion Emergency Braking
  • Applies braking force to avoid a collision if the vehicle ahead stops suddenly
• Extended Restart in Stop-and-Go Traffic
  • Enables DISTRONIC to stay active at lower speeds with minimal driver input to decrease fatigue in stop-and-go traffic
• PRE-SAFE PLUS
  • Detects an impending rear-end collision and tensions up the seatbelts to decrease the risk of passenger injury
• PRE-SAFE Impulse Side
  • Detects an impending side collision and inflates the seat bolster closest to the door to move the occupant further from the collision thereby reducing the risk of injury
